I haven't admired another comic this much since Calvin and Hobbes or Pearls Before Swine (in its first few years). I recently discovered "Lio" by Mark Tatulli. It is an absolutely wonderful comic. If you haven't heard of it before, then look it up. I highly recomend it. There is no dialog, only sound effects and signs. The mostly visual gags are invintive and very imaginative with a little bit of a dark side.
They also do a few things that I like to do with my comics, which always makes me nervous, because that can run into people claiming that one is copying the other. I felt that way about Pearls back in the day. They kept running comics with similar ideas to mine and I started to freak out and tried to steer into different humour styles. On the plus side, competition always breeds groth, innovation, inspiration, and perspiration?
Here are a few samples of Lio. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.
